A Million Reasons

♪
His comfy chair is empty now
He left so quiet, and still she wonders how
She's packing the years in cardboard and tape
Trying to give this silence a shape
Then in a locked drawer, out of her view
A letter box with a label, "Reasons I Love You"

Page one, his writing, kind to see
"Day one, the way she smiled at me"

A million reasons, written by hand
A million mornings lost like grains of sand
He loved her in ink while she looked away
He filled these letters, day after day
A million reasons, and she gave him none
A million silence, no wonder he's gone

"Day ninety, she sang me out of the rain"
"Day four hundred, she held me through the pain"
The things she missed, he'd quietly done
He kept them all, he lost not one
But the last few pages hurt to read
"Day after day, she doesn't see me"

The final page is torn and bare
Just one line, "No reasons left to stay there"

A million reasons, folded away
A million mornings he chose to stay
He gave his love in a hundred small ways
While she was somewhere lost in her days
A million reasons, and not one heard
A million silence, louder than words

Today, she finds a pen, a blank page too
And writes his name, the way he knew
If love can grow one day at a time
Then hers can start with just one line

A million reasons, now hers to keep
She writes one down before she sleeps
No more letters lost, no more unsaid
She starts tonight, a page instead
A million reasons, this time her own
A million ways to not be alone
