I Burn for You

I reach for the same book as you
Your fingers brush, I don't know what to do
You glance at me, your eyes retreat
I drop my words into the quiet street
All week I've dreamed of something small
A chance, a spark, to break the wall

You say you're calm, your smile is slight
But I can see your heart tonight

I burn for you, I can't pretend
I burn for you, it will not end
The scent of pages pulls me close
Your quiet gaze, the thing I chose
I burn for you through quiet days
I burn for you, in secret ways

You step closer, the shelf between
I catch your breath, your cheeks unseen
The pages turn beneath your hand
I want to speak, but cannot stand
All week I've dreamed of just one chance
A word, a smile, a fleeting glance

You say it's nothing, your voice is small
But I can feel your walls start to fall

I burn for you, I won't let go
I burn for you, you should know
The weight of words I cannot speak
Your fleeting gaze makes my knees weak
I burn for you through storm and rain
I burn for you through joy and pain

I've waited here for one small sign
Your hand, your smile, to meet with mine
This quiet spark has grown too strong
I've held it back for far too long

I burn for you, and now you see
I burn for you, and you burn with me
The books around us fade away
Your gentle smile lights up my day
I burn for you through every fear
I burn for you, now you are near
