I'm Just a Girl

♫ 2000s Pop + 9 more versions

♪
I'm just a girl in a quiet café
Nursing coffee as the daylight fades
Outside, the world keeps moving fast
But here I'm stuck inside the past
Your words still echo in my head
The things I wish I never said

If someone glanced my way right now
They'd see the tears I won't allow

I'm just a girl, not a mystery
Not the fire they think they see
I break like glass, but hide it well
Lived through quiet kinds of hell
I'm more than poems in my head
Or the lipstick shade I wear in red
I'm just a girl, not asking much
Just to be seen, just to be touched

The bell above the door still rings
But all I hear are broken things
I trace the rim of this cold cup
Wonder if you'll call me up
I'm tangled in my own mistakes
Regretting every choice I made

And when I say I'm doing fine
I'm holding back the rising tide

I'm just a girl, not a mystery
Not the fire they think they see
I bend like branches in the storm
Wishing I was something more
I'm more than soft beneath the skin
I'm battles lost I never win
I'm just a girl, still holding tight
To a little faith, and Friday night

And maybe love will find me slow
In whispered words, in quiet glow
Someone to read the lines I hide
And love the flaws I keep inside

I'm just a girl, no perfect frame
But worth remembering just the same
I dream while sitting in the cold
With stories no one ever told
I'm more than silence, more than skin
More than where I've always been
I'm just a girl, who still believes
In something more than make-believe
