I built a wall of ice and frost
To keep from feeling what I'd lost
I filled my days with noise and tasks
I wore a hundred paper masks
I told the mirror I was strong
But "strong" was just a winter song
You said, "Come on, let's paint tonight"
I said, "With what?" You pointed high
The sky was spilling shades of green
The brightest thing I'd ever seen
Northern lights, our empty page
We paint the sky from shade to shade
You choose the green, I choose the blue
I'll paint a little heart for you
No lines to follow, no perfect plan
Just colors dancing hand in hand
Northern lights, they dance above
Painting everything we love
You took my brush and chose some red
Then painted stars above my head
I laughed and said, "That's not my style"
You smiled and kept it for a while
We made a mess across this page
And somehow made our own new shade
I came here thinking I was fine
But now I'm losing track of time
I said, "You're changing all my plans"
You smiled and painted on my hands
Northern lights, this is our page
Let's paint it wild, let's paint it strange
You draw the moon, I draw your name
We're not the same, but that's the game
We share the brush, we share the path
Just colors dancing as we laugh
Northern lights, they dance above
Painting everything we love
I used to stand here on my own
Just frost and silence, tired, alone
Then you showed up with paint in hand
And taught me how to understand
Thank you for seeing through my walls
You caught me right before I'd fall
You took my winter, made it art
You colored in my frozen heart
No wall, no frost, no empty hand
Just you and me, this page, this land
Northern lights, I see it true
The only canvas, I need, is you
