Paper Lights

We went down the river on a warm summer night
You handed me paper, your eyes shining bright
We wrote down our wishes, hearts open and shy
Let lanterns take flight, sending hope to the sky

The city below us was quiet and small
We dreamed of forever, not fearing the fall
Your eyes full of wonder, your heart open wide
We watched as our secrets took flight in the sky

Paper lights, glowing in the dark
Carrying our stories, carrying our hearts
Even as they soar on, lost in endless blue
I'll treasure our wishes, always close to you

We danced in the silence, barefoot on grass
Time moving slowly, wishing it would last
You whispered your worries, I brushed them away
Told you that sunrise would bring a new day

But dreams are like lanterns, fragile and bright
Sometimes they flicker, then fade out of sight
Still I keep hoping, still I believe
Somewhere our wishes float on the breeze

Paper lights, glowing in the dark
Carrying our stories, carrying our hearts
Even as they soar on, lost in endless blue
I'll treasure our wishes, always close to you

If you ever wonder, if you ever doubt
Look to the night sky, I'm sending one out
A hope in the darkness, a sign you can see
A paper light burning for you and me

Paper lights, painting up the sky
Bridging all the distance, letting hope fly
No fears, no doubts, our dream burning bright
Paper lights shining hope in the darkest night
