Six a.m., the number nine is late
Three strangers stand with me and wait
An old man grabs me by the sleeve
He talks and talks, won't let me leave
He knows my first kiss, and the date
He's Yesterday, he carries all my weight
Next to him, a man in grey
Eyes on his book, he's called Today
Yesterday won't let me go
Today's too busy, saying no
Tomorrow holds a ticket in her hand
In a language I don't understand
Yesterday, today, tomorrow, in a row
Who gets on with me, I don't know
At the end, a girl in silver shoes
Grinning like she's nothing left to lose
She doesn't talk, she doesn't stare
She just leaves room beside her there
Yesterday whispers, "She'll bring bad news"
Today just shrugs, "It's yours to choose"
The number nine pulls in at last
One seat left, so choose it fast
Yesterday still won't let go
Today keeps reading, head down low
Tomorrow holds the ticket in her hand
As if one day I'll understand
Yesterday, today, tomorrow, in a row
The bus is here, and I have to know
I could stay with the old man's songs
Where I know I can't go wrong
I could stand with Today, head down
Or take her hand and leave this town
I take the seat, and Yesterday waves
"Go on," he says, "I'll keep what you gave"
Today closes his book and smiles at me
Tomorrow's ticket says, "Whoever you want to be"
Yesterday, today, tomorrow, I won't choose
I'll take them all, in silver shoes
